Native to Eastern Mexico and Central America, this evergreen tree’s fruit has a reputation for causing drowsiness. Growing well throughout Southern California, the White Sapote’s fruit ripens 6 to 9 months after its first blooms. The custard-like flesh has a flavor similar to that of a banana.
