Perlite
Amend your compact soil with perlite for an improved growing experience.
The native soil in Southern California is a heavy mix of dense yellow clay and fine sand. This is a notoriously challenging planting medium for non-native plants. Perlite is a lightweight, naturally occurring volcanic rock. When added and mixed thoroughly into the soil, it will help promote better drainage and aeration to prevent waterlogging and root rot.
Application
Heavy Clay Soil - 20% - 30% perlite volume
Sandy Soil - 10% - 15% perlite volume
