Plant Sizing Guide

Buddha Belly Bamboo (Bambusa ventricosa) is a striking, non-invasive clumping bamboo famous for its unique, bulging internodes that resemble a "Buddha's belly". Native to the subtropical regions of Southern China and Vietnam, this plant is highly adaptable and can be grown as a massive landscape specimen or a compact, ornamental container plant. Its most distinctive feature—the swollen stems—is actually a result of controlled stress, such as being root-bound in a pot or experiencing periods of drought, which causes the nodes to shorten and "belly out".
