Plant Sizing Guide

The California Aster (Symphyotrichum chilense) is a resilient and native perennial that adds a late-season burst of color to gardens and wild landscapes. Characterized by its petite, daisy-like flowers with slender lavender to blue-violet petals and bright yellow centers, it is a vital resource for pollinators when many other plants have finished blooming. It grows with a spreading habit, making it an excellent choice for erosion control on slopes or as a lush groundcover. Its dense foliage is notably tough, standing up well to salt spray, wind, and varying soil conditions. It is also a powerhouse for local ecosystems, serving as a nectar source for butterflies. While it thrives in moist soils, it is drought-adapted once established.
